THE GALLACHER TROPHY - OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT RULES

1. CONDITIONS

a) The Event is a team event comprising one team of leading European businessmen/women and another team of leading US businessmen/women. It shall be called "The Gallacher Trophy" and is owned/run by Professional Sports Events Ltd. ("The Organisers"). In 2001 the sponsors of The Gallacher Trophy are British Airways Plc ("The Sponsors").

b) 24 players will compete, comprising of one team from the US (11 qualifiers plus 1 title sponsors corporate executive) and 1 team from Europe (11 qualifiers plus 1 title sponsors corporate executive).

c) Handicap Allowances - 6 members of each team will play a scratch match-play format where no handicap allowance is given. 6 members of each team will play a match play format where ¾ handicap allowance will be given.

d) The Event will be decided by a match-play format over two rounds (one foursomes and one singles) of 18 holes, in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, and in accordance with the Local Rules approved by the Tournament Committee. The Event will be held at Loch Lomond Golf Club, Scotland on September 21st 2001.

e) There will be 6 foursomes matches in the morning and 12 singles matches in the afternoon of the Event. The Winner (s) of each match will be awarded one point. The Trophy will be awarded to the team with the most points following morning and afternoon matches.

f) In the Event of a tie after the match, the winner will be decided by a sudden death play-off by strokes over the 18th hole between the two non-playing Captains, the play-off to start as soon as practicable after the last players have finished their round. If the players are still tied having played this hole, then the event may declare a tie.

g) The Organiser arranges publicity before and during the Event in the Press and by live and recorded radio and television broadcasting and filming and on the Internet. The Competitors assent to references to them and pictures of them in play appearing and being used for such commercial purposes by the Organisers.

h) If applicable, a Competitor shall at all times be liable for the actions of his caddie and ensure that the caddie complies with the Conditions as they apply to him. A Competitor shall ensure that his caddie wears clothing of a type appropriate to the Event and in particular a caddy shall be required to wear an Event over garment or bib of a type and design as shall be supplied by the Organisers.

i) Drugs - A competitor shall not knowingly make use of any drug to enhance his performance. Should a competitor show clinical evidence of use of a drug for a non-therapeutic purpose, the Committee may require him to undergo a drug test. Any competitor infringing this Condition may be disqualified. Competitors who are on medication and in doubt as to their clinical status should seek advice from the Organisers.

j) Pace of Play - A copy of the full pace of play condition will be posted at the Event and will be available on request from the reception desk.

k) Golf Balls
(i) List of Conforming Golf Balls - The specimen Condition in the Rules of Golf is in effect - see page 120.

(ii) One Ball Condition - The specimen Condition in the Rules of Golf is in effect - see page 121.

l) Transportation: Players shall walk at all times during a stipulated round unless permitted to ride by the Tournament Committee.

m) Time of starting (Note to Rule 6-3a) - The Specimen Condition in the Rules of Golf is in effect - see page 121.

n) The Winning Non-Playing Captain will award the monies received from the Entry Fees to donate to a Charity of his choice.

o) The Tournament Committee reserves the right to arrange and/or alter the Event conditions and the decisions of that Committee will, in all matters, be final.

2. US & EUROPEAN QUALIFYING COMPETITIONS

The qualifying procedure will be as follows:

a) Two separate Regional Qualifying Competitions of 18 holes each will be played under a stroke play format. The first will be played at Wentworth Golf Club, Berkshire, England on the East Course on Sunday September 2nd 2001. The second will be played at Superstition Mountain Golf Club, Phoenix, Arizona, and USA on Sunday September 9th 2001. There will be a maximum of 100 participants per Qualifying Event.

b) Entrants will be invited to play one regional final depending on their citizenship or country of birth. i.e. only EEC passport holders may play in the Wentworth Event and only US passport holders may play in the Superstition Mountain Event

c) The top 6 gross medal scores from each Qualifying Competition and the top 5 net scores make the teams for The Gallacher Trophy. They will be joined by one senior corporate executive of appropriate nationality from the Sponsors.

d) Ties for last places in each Regional Qualifying Competition will be decided by hole-by-hole play-off as soon as practicable after the last players have finished their round.

e) Reserve places in case of subsequent withdrawals from the Event will also be decided by hole-by-hole play-off if necessary from each Regional Qualifying Competition.

f) The Organisers agree to cover the accommodation, green fees and food costs at The Gallacher Trophy itself for all successful participants at the Qualifying Events. The Sponsors have agreed to offer beneficial airline rates for all finalists travelling to Scotland.

3. ENTRY FORM, ENTRANCE FEE AND CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES

a. Entries shall be made only on the official entry form via wwwgallachertrophy.com or via one of the official partner sites including www.unicef.org.uk.

b. Entry is only open to:

(i) Company Directors, Senior Corporate Officers of Companies listed on NYSE, Nasdaq. Amex, London, Frankfurt, Brussels, Paris, Rome or Madrid Stock Exchanges.
(ii) Directors of Private Companies registered in the US or an EEC member state provided that the Company has filed for over $50 million turnover in its most recent annual accounts.
(iii) British Airways Premier & Gold Executive Card members.


c. There is a minimum entry fee of $200 for all participants. This sum will be donated to a charity of the Winning Captain's choice at the final.

d. Entries must be received by the Tournament Entries Department not later than 12pm GMT on 21st August 2001.

e. Entries will not be accepted by telephone. An official entry form must be fully completed by the entrant.

f. The first 5 entries to both events will be on a first come, first served basis. Thereafter the remaining spots for both Qualifying Events will be awarded via a prize draw. Successful applicants will be notified by 12pm GMT 21st August 2001.

g. The Organisers may require independent certified evidence of playing ability of entrants. The 'maximum' handicap for the event shall be 18. Entrants will be accepted by players with handicaps greater than 18 provided that the successful player agrees to accept a handicap of 18 for the purposes of the Event.

h. 20 spots at each Event will be auctioned on www.unicef.org.uk. The top 10 bids for "2 spots" at each venue will be accepted at 12pm GMT on August 21st 2001. A minimum bid of $1000 for 2 spots applies. All revenue raised will go directly to Unicef.

i. All entries will be subject to the approval of the Organisers which reserves the right to accept or refuse, or having accepted, subsequently reject any entry without giving reason for its decision.

j. The Organisers reserve the right to disqualify any competitor making a false statement on his entry form.
k. Successful Entries to the Event may not be exchanged, sold and are only applicable to the successful applicant. If the applicant is for any reason not available for the Qualifying Competitions, he or she should immediately notify the Organisers. Failure to do so and then not to turn up at a Qualifying Event may result in a Life Ban from entry to the Event.
